FWD represents the interests of its members in Westminster and Brussels, contributing on their behalf to discussions on forthcoming regulations and government policy, and scanning the horizon for legislative threats to the profitability of the wholesale distribution sector.
We seek to ensure that the economic and social contribution of our members and their SME customers is not overlooked in parliament, so that competition in the retail and foodservice sector is preserved, and the public is given the widest choice of options for shopping and eating out, close to home and at affordable prices.
In regular meetings with Ministers, their shadows and departmental officials, we raise awareness of this vital industry at the highest levels of government, passing on information and opinions gathered from members on topics that affect them. Our campaigning positions are formed by the Council of Members and supporting committees, and through regular updates we keep our members up to date on threat and opportunities in the legislative pipeline.
We contribute to government consultations, give evidence on behalf of the sector in Select Committee meetings, and speak for wholesale on departmental committees such as the Food Chain Emergency Liaison Group and the Joint Alcohol Anti-Fraud Task Force.
We impress on MPs the enormous contribution that members make in their constituencies through their support for small businesses
FWD also engages government, backbench and opposition MPs, both in Westminster and in their constituencies. We impress on them the enormous contribution that members make in their constituencies through their support of small businesses. We invite MPs to visit cash and carry depots, and encourage them to support the sector in their contributions to Commons debates, house committees and parliamentary questions.
