The thoughts of the food and drink wholesale community were with their colleagues at Palmer and Harvey, the FWD member which went into administration this week, as the industry met to celebrate great personal achievements at the industry’s Gold Medal Awards.
FWD Chairman Andrew Selley told the 750 guests: “Many of us in this room are competitors in our working day but when events like this occur we come together through FWD as friends and colleagues across our industry.
“I know you will all join me in wishing our friends and colleagues from Palmer and Harvey the very best as they face an uncertain future and some difficult times ahead. Tonight’s judges saw many examples of the P&H team’s excellent work over the last year in the entries they submitted for these awards, and I’m very pleased to see that this has been recognised in the shortlists for our medals.”
More than £12,000 raised during the evening will go to a fund to support P&H colleagues set up by GroceryAid, the charity for people working in retail and wholesale. Donations to the fund can be made via www.groceryaid.org.uk
