Bestway and Dhamecha celebrate top performance
Wholesalers recognised in annual industry tobacco award
A clutch of high-performing wholesalers were celebrated for their sales after a leading tobacco accessories supplier gave out its annual awards.
Republic Technologies Limited’s gongs, the Wholesale Awards, recognise businesses that have played a part in developing the tobacco accessories category in their cash and carries.
A total of eight awards were given, with a host of big names picking up accolades, including Today’s Group member Dhamecha and Bestway.
Bestway’s Category Manager for Tobacco, Alex Robson (pictured above), was delighted with his company’s success, as the wholesaler picked up the Best Customer Activity Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award.
Robson said: “Working closely with suppliers is incredibly important to us as we look to drive sales in the smoking accessories category.
“By increasing visibility of the brand and dual-sitting next to the till-point, in addition to stocking in tobacco rooms, we increased the impulsivity of sales results in a four-fold increase on Swan products during the promotional period.
“This proves that by working collaboratively with suppliers, there is still major headroom for growth, even across highly developed categories, such as tobacco.”
Dhamecha Cash & Carry took the top honours by claiming Wholesaler of the Year, with its site in Leicester taking Depot of the Year and Birmingham employee Richard Elphick getting his hands on Depot Manager of the Year.
Other winners were The Village Store in Mickleton for Symbol Retailer of the Year and Jempson’s for Symbol Multiple Retailer of the Year, while Home Bargains took Discounter of the Year.
Gavin Anderson, General Sales Manager at Republic Technologies UK, said: Our cash and carry, and wholesale partners have shown real commitment when it comes to driving sales during what has been, at times, a challenging year in the tobacco market.
“We’re delighted to be rewarding their achievements for the third year running.”
