Gittins named as Confex managing director

New man takes the helm as Nicky White steps down

It’s all change at the top of buying group Confex, with Tom Gittins taking over as managing director in place of Nicky White.

Gittins, who was previously business development director, has taken over the reins with immediate effect as White calls time on 25 years at the head of the family business to retire.

The new man in charge has plenty of experience to rely on, having worked his way up the ranks over the past decade and enjoyed a diverse career in horse racing prior to starting at Confex.

“I thank the Confex board for giving me this opportunity and look forward to leading Confex into the next phase of our evolution in our 48th year,” said Gittins.

“These are exciting times for the wholesale industry and with our dynamic, forward-thinking members and dedicated head office team, we’re well placed to capitalise on the rapidly changing marketplace.”

Gittins appointment is the latest new addition to the buying group, with more than 20 members being added to the business since the beginning of 2019 and former Landmark Managing Director, Martin Williams, joining as the company’s chairman in January.

“Confex continues to grow and evolve, with the members becoming the focal point of the business,” said Williams.

“I’ve been delighted to work with them this year and look forward to working with Tom and the family to further grow and develop for both next year and future years.”

As for White, her future looks like a well-earned break and more adventures with some of the younger members of the family.

She added: “After 25 years, I’m happy to hand over the reins to Tom and the brilliant team we now have in place at Confex. I’m also looking forward to spending more time with my grandchildren.”
