Plastic’s not fantastic

Following its pledge to reduce plastic consumption, Bidfood is rolling out a range of 150 plastic-free products

“We have been working hard to review our own brand packaging as part of our sustainable offering to customers,” said Michaela Bateman, Category Manager, Bidfood. “This range has been designed with customers in mind, to provide choice to those who are keen to move towards more sustainable products. It includes plastic-free alternative materials such as paper, wood and bagasse and PLA (which are compostable materials).”

Reflecting Bidfood’s pledge to reduce plastic consumption, its own brand water, Springbourne, will be moving to 50% recycled plastic content from July. It is also launching Can O Water, a plastic-free alternative to bottled water.

Bidfood’s Catering Supplies team has also been worked with WRAP, key suppliers and customers within the food-to-go market to produce a simple guide to recycling ‘Food 2 Go’ packaging. Bidfood will also working longer term to offer an onsite food and composting machine which turns product into composting pellets for customers.

And that’s not all, Bidfood has also removed all disposable plastic cups and takeaway coffee cups from its Business Support Centre in Slough and this is planned to be rolled out across all sites.
