AF Blakemore to create 200 new jobs

Food distributor supporting economy by signing deal on new warehouse

AF Blakemore & Son is set to create more than 200 new jobs after the business signed a pre-let agreement on new purpose-built warehouse.

The deal for the site in Bedford is part of the company’s ambitious growth plans, with the new depot expected to complement its existing network of distribution centres.

Measuring in a 164,850 square feet and offering multi-temperature capabilities, the distribution facility is set to open in 2021, as long as the correct planning permission is received in the meantime.

The Bedford warehouse will run alongside AF Blakemore‘s headquarters in Willenhall and other distribution centres in the West Midlands, West Yorkshire, East Sussex and South Wales, and will give the business extra supply-chain capacity to support targeted growth across its retail, wholesale and foodservice departments.

“This is an exciting development for AF Blakemore and reflects confidence in the company’s ability to grow in the markets in which it operates,” said Joint Managing Director Geoff Hallam.

“The move will strengthen our reputation as a national food distributor, enable us to continue to improve our service to customers and ensure the long-term sustainability of the business.

“AF Blakemore has a firm commitment to responsible business practice, and positive engagement with colleagues, customers, the environment and the local community will be a clear focus for the business as we look to establish the new site.”
