TWC announces Fender appointment
Industry entrepreneur joins the team at route-to-market data specialist
It’s said that you can’t keep a good man down and that’s right for Tom Fender, with the industry specialist resurfacing at TWC as the company’s new development director.
Fender was on the look out for a new project after overseeing the acquisition of Bolt Learning by private equity firm, Aliter Capital, in June.
And after discussing the chance to join up with TWC CEO Tanya Pepin in a newly created role to aid the route-to-market specialist’s continued growth.
“I’ve been a long-time admirer of both Tanya and TWC. I have watched their progress from the sidelines for more than a decade,” said Fender.
“Tanya’s knowledge and passion for the wholesale sector is immense – this was a key reason for me wanting to join her and the team to support the next phase of exciting growth.”
Fender’s record of helping businesses to grow within the wholesale sector is strong, with one of his biggest successes being co-owner of HIM from 1997 and until it was acquired by William Reed in 2012, before investing in Bolt Learning a year later.
His unwavering passion for the wholesale and convenience sector is fuelled by his belief that a host of exciting businesses tackling industry challenges creates a good environment to be in.
“Generally, I want to work with small, specialist businesses with high growth opportunities, ones where there is a family feel and a culture of high-quality products and services. TWC certainly ticks all of those boxes,” Fender added.
“I’ve also wanted to work with sales data for many years – it’s a gap in my illusionary CV – but the fact that TWC is strategically combining data and analytics with technology was a big selling point for me.
“Every penny of income has to be earned and the sector is a true meritocracy – the good do well, the very good do very well.”
Pepin is delighted to get Fender on board and believes his appointment could be a huge boost to TWC.
“Within our market sectors there are some inspirational, highly entrepreneurial individuals who have made a real impact, commanding unilateral respect for their achievements and expertise,” she explained.
“Tom is one of those people – he’s made a real market as a serial entrepreneur and he fully appreciates the power of data and insight, and how the two work together to underpin and accelerate business success.
“We’re enormously excited that he is joining us here at TWC at a pivotal point in our own growth and development.”
