Wholesaler reports record sales as eating out market gets going

JJ Foodservice has reported record sales during August as the UK returned to eating out and new home customers continue to buy in bulk while stating that wholesalers are ‘not out of the woods’

For four weeks in August 2020, total sales at JJ increased by 9.27% compared with the same period the previous year.

“We reacted immediately to the lockdown with the launch of our Next Day Home delivery service”, said Mushtaque Ahmed, Chief Operating Officer.

Smaller pack sizes were launched to help households reduce waste and quantity limits were placed on essential items to reduce panic buying. JJ also launched a same-day delivery service for selected parts of London.

The wholesaler also credited its ‘robust and reliable supply chain’ for retaining new customers that turned to JJ during lockdown.

“We are by no means out of the woods but to get this far under unprecedented circumstances is a great achievement,” he said.
