Rapid Covid testing to protect Birchall Foodservice staff

Lateral-flow Covid testing has been introduced at Birchall Foodservice as the wholesaler aims to keep its workforce safe.

The Country Range Group member is carrying out hundreds of rapid tests every three-to-five days to ensure everyone is Covid-free when they come to work.

The tests provide results within 30 minutes and aims to stop the spread of coronavirus in the region.

The first round of testing was supervised by the army, with all subsequent tests administered by an in-house task force.

Should any of the tests discover a positive, they are sent home to self isolate and asked to immediately book an NHS test at a local testing centre.

The testing procedure is the latest in a long line of robust safety policies Birchall has introduced during the pandemic to ensure its staff and customers remain safe.

“The introduction of rapid testing allows us to quickly identify asymptomatic cases of Coronavirus within the business,” said Sales Director Louise Birchall.

“By isolating these cases, we can stop any potential spread of Covid and help protect our employees, their families and our customers.

“We are encouraging all businesses, no matter the size, to introduce frequent, rapid testing amongst their workforce.“
