Sixty new jobs created at The Cress Company
Scottish wholesaler The Cress Company is creating 60 new jobs with the more to its new depot.
The Dunfermline-based business is doubling its warehouse size as it deals with increased sales in 2020 due to a surge of interest in supporting local brands.
The new premises – which used to be owned by Palmer & Harvey – will be opened in May 2021 and will include 78,000 square foot of warehouse space, a staff car park and modern office facilities.
That will create 60 new permanent positions in an range of departments, including customer service, warehouse and buying.
The move marks another step forward in the business’s story, having started out of a small lock up with room to only hold eight pallets and a second-hand van.
The Cress Company serves companies across the UK and have pointed to the ‘discovery’ of local convenience stores as one of the key reasons demand has grown so much in the past 12 months.
“Demand was coming from new and existing retail customers for more items and that was being driven by customers going to them rather than supermarkets,” said Head Buyer Nikki Castley.
“In a strange way, Covid has brought awareness to independent retailers.”
