Seafood industry reel goes viral

A Northern Irish seafood supplier posted a video showing how they skinned their fish… more than 30m views later, they’re a viral sensation!

Keenan Seafood, which is part of Lynas Foodservice, regularly shares behind-the-scenes footage from their processing facility in Belfast, but this particular video caught the attention of the world, resulting in more than 17m views on TikTok and 13m on Instagram within a handful of days.

The content, which was originally filmed and shared by seafood filleter Matt Stitt, was created to showcase the impressive skills of the expert team at Keenan Seafood. While the video captured the team’s expertise filleting, it seems it also captured the internet’s attention.

“We never set out to go viral, we just started sharing behind-the-scenes snippets of the incredible work our factory and delivery teams do every day,” said James Carmichael, General Manager, Keenan Seafood. “Turns out, people love watching seafood prep!”

Chef and Product Development Manager Dean Coppard added: “It’s brilliant to see something so down-to-earth resonate with people. It’s a bit of fun, but it’s also a reminder of the skill and quality behind every box we deliver to our valued customers throughout Ireland.”

Earlier this year, Keenan Seafood was acquired by Lynas Foodservice, a third-generation family-owned foodservice wholesale business in order to strengthen the wholesaler’s foothold in foodservice. With more than 75 years’ heritage in the trade, Keenan Seafood plays a vital role in Northern Ireland’s seafood industry with a reputation for quality and consistency. Each week it supplies approximately 15 tonnes of seafood to more than 500 catering and retail customers.
