Andrew Selley lifts prestigious Grocer Cup

Bidfood CEO tops industry vote to become grocery champion

Andrew Selley’s name was up in lights at last night’s IGD Awards Dinner, as the Bidfood CEO took home the coveted Grocery Cup.

The Bidfood CEO was one of a host of grocery industry big guns to be put forward for the award, with Selley coming out on top of a vote carried out by readers of The Grocer to recognise the individual who has contributed most to the industry over the past year.

Selley beat a shortlist of other industry stars, including Tesco CEO Dave Lewis and Ocado’s Tim Steiner, to bring home the award – which is not only a feather in the cap for Bidfood itself, but also a recognition of what can be achieved within the wholesale sector.

The triumph comes hot on the heels of Bidfood picking up the Wholesaler of the Year award at the Grocer Gold Awards a few months ago, and signals how much Selley has achieved since taking over as CEO four years ago.

Alongside his role at Bidfood, Selley is also chairman of FWD and plays a key role in leading the wholesale industry in what is a time when upheaval and uncertainty are rife.

Upon receiving the award, one comment from an FWD member said: “Andrew has been a proper chairman at FWD. He makes the time to attend every meeting and never seems to either want or need to rush away.

“He has a calm and unassuming manner which brings out the best in people both in council meetings and also in Bidfood employees. He is one of all too few examples of a highly effective leader whilst at the same time being nice and a pleasure to work with.”
