JJ Foodservice launches first event of its kind

Foodservice wholesaler focuses new event on women in business

JJ Foodservice is inspiring female foodservice professionals to meet each other as part of a UK-first industry event. The Women in Fish and Chips (WiFC) event will be held on 13 January 2020 to bring female business owners together to network and share their experiences.

A significant 74% of female shop owners said they would like to meet other successful people running fish and chip shops and 64% would like to build their business networks and connections, according to JJ’s Women in Fish and Chips 2019 survey.

Nikki Hawkins, Trade Events Manager at the Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish), and proposed chairperson for the event, said: “I have been working in the seafood industry for 18 years. I’m delighted to be involved in an event that spotlights and celebrates women in our industry. It can only help to inspire other females and make the fish and chip sector attractive to a wider pool of talent.”

The foodservice wholesaler supplies thousands of fish and chip shops in the UK and is a founding supporter of educational networking initiative Women in Wholesale, which is headed up by New Era PR’s Elit Rowland.

JJ has taken a leading position on increasing diversity in the past with a campaign to introduce more women working in its depots – achieving a 18% ratio at its peak.

Group General Manager for JJ Foodservice Terry Larkin said: “We care passionately about the fish and chip shop sector and want to provide all the support we can to ensure our customers succeed.”
