Coronavirus: Confex trade show postponed

Buying group Confex has become the latest wholesale business to postpone its trade show due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Managing Director Tom Gittins took to LinkedIn to inform the sector of the decision to shelve the event scheduled for 26 March and move it to late July.

Confex says all bookings for the initial date will remain and the show will be still held at the De Vere Cotswold Water Park in Gloucestershire.

The move to rearrange the trade show comes just days after Unitas Wholesale decided to take the same action for their own event following a string of cancellations from members and suppliers.

“This decision was taken following government and World Health Organisation advice following the covid-19 outbreak,” Gittins said on the LinkedIn video.

“We must now focus on safety within our business practice by following guidance from the Federation of Wholesale Distributors [FWD], who are taking their lead directly from government officials.

“We will continue to provide help and assistance with a key role of feeding the nation through the wholesale network. Confex wholesalers will be delivering supplies across the UK to ensure millions of Britons keep our nation running.

“I know the wholesale sector will step up, as it has done successfully for the last 150 years as the backbone of the British supply chain.”
