Two new wholesale members join Confex

Confex has added two new members to its ranks as the buying group records a period of sustained growth

Scottish wholesalers Cressco and Metro Cash and Carry have been added to the membership, arriving in Confex’s 50th anniversary year.

Year to date numbers show the group’s value is up 72% and volume by 78%, taking them to the landmark figure of £3 billion combined turnover.

New recruits Cressco and Metro Cash and Carry add a further £50 million to the total.

Cressco (The Cress Company) is a fine food distributor based in Dunfermline, Fife, offering ambient, chilled and speciality products. The company started in 2004 from a small lock-up, in Perth, with a handful of artisan producers looking for local distribution.

Since then, the business has grown significantly and they now deliver thousands of ambient and chilled, stock and pre-order lines nationwide from their warehouse and distribution depots in Dunfermline, Telford, Leighton Buzzard and Maltby, with further expansion planned for 2023.

Metro Cash and Carry are a Glasgow-based foodservice operation servicing restaurants, cafes and takeaways which specialise ethnic and continental produce, along with a wide range of packaging and cleaning products.

“We are particularly excited to join Confex to access the CORE range and work more closely with top suppliers,” said Metro Managing Director Abrar Ahmad.

“Metro Cash and Carry are looking forward to adding a variety of fresh lines to our offering and we look forward to working with Confex to grow our business.”
