Elit Rowland ranked in 2020 Power 50

Women in Wholesale founder Elit Rowland highlighted the need for focus and discipline as she celebrated being named in the 2020 Power 50 awards.

Rowland, who is also head of communications at JJ Foodservice, was recognised by flexible working consultancy, Timewise, as part of 50 powerful executives in the UK who work part time or flexibly.

The list aims to highlight the reality of modern work in Britain and breaks down the belief that working part time isn’t associated with being ambitious, highly successful or senior.

As well as being a huge credit for Rowland, the award is a feather in the cap of JJ Foodservice and its focus on diversity, which was happy to permanently employ her in a senior position while working on a three-day pattern.

“Flexible working isn’t for everyone – you need to be focused, disciplined and driven,” Rowland said. “I’m grateful to my team at JJ Foodservice for giving me the trust and the opportunity to be able to work flexibly.

“Thank you also to Emma at Timewise for starting such an incredible initiative, which spotlights the country’s best part-time and flexible workers.”

Rowland has been a big advocate of flexible working for a long while as part of her work for Women in Wholesale, which in conjunction with FWD and other industry parties, has helped to reduce the number of women saying lack of flexibility in the wholesale sector is their biggest barrier to progression from 53% to 11% in the past two years.
